Introduction to Astrology II

Galactic Diner

Suppose you walk into a diner and have a seat at your favorite booth. You decide to order yourself your favorite Pecan Pie to take home. The waitress brings it to you and you look down at it. The pie is cut into 12 equal pieces. What should this remind you of? Astrology of course!

If you were to divide the sky up, it wouldn’t look quite as pretty as your pie. The constellations prevent you from doing that, but the zodiac signs, not constellations, do divide it up evenly. The 360 degrees is divided into 12 divisions of 30 degrees each.

This galactic pie is further divided into 4 pieces, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn.

Modern Astrology

After old Astrology was thrown out, a new one was born. To the astrologers, Aries was not just some dots in a sky. It was the idea of fire, energy, and the coming of warmth and spring. It wasn’t the stars that mattered, but now how would they support their ideas?

A new zodiac was invented, using the same names, symbols, and etc. that had been on the old zodiac. Like our pie, it is free from space. The new zodiac is imaginary, so it never moves. The signs come and go in the same order, regardless of what constellation is in the sky.
With a stable zodiac, Astrology had a solid base and could then be studied fully.
